Community-led working

Community-led responses are a crucial part of how we respond to both the ongoing impact of climate change and how we address unfair and avoidable health inequalities.

Communities bring huge amounts of experience, enthusiasm and ability to tackle even the largest, most persistent global issues. This community-led action is vital if we’re to see concrete action in creating a fairer, more sustainable Scotland.

We also need to ensure that this change happens equally across our communities. It’s vital to recognise that some communities (of place, interest, or identify) face more barriers than others in being able to have their voices and priorities heard.

That means they should be properly supported and resourced, with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to meaningfully shape how decisions are made.

At the core of this way of working is community development: people taking action on the issues important to them. This approach includes the values of social justice, empowerment, equality and, non-discrimination.

With Unbound, we will work in a way that upholds these values. We want to support local activity that brings people together to harness the power of collective action that we know can result in real change happen - led by communities themselves.
